In the US, on June 25, 2020, the official premiere of the new Ford F-150 pickup takes place, which, after a generational change, has become more technological. Remember that this model from Ford Motor Company is America’s best-selling model – 900,000 cars a year.
The new pickup has six basic trim levels, excluding additional options, six power generators, two propulsion types, five wheelbase options, three cabin types and three cargo platforms, in other words, the number of versions is enormous. In addition, up to four outlets can be placed on the cargo platform (as an option, the pickup can supply power to external Pro Power Onboard equipment, for non-hybrid modifications, the load on it is limited to two kilowatts), and a clamp on the rear side allows it to be used as a table. work, and is included in standard equipment. The new Tailgate Work Surface is optionally available with a built-in ruler and holder for pencil mugs and mobile devices.
All F-150s now have a collapsible transmission selector, on top of which is an Interior Work Surface or a foldable laptop table in the parking lot. In the second row, the bearings can be raised and converted into an additional cargo compartment with a flat floor, and as an option, you can order a box with an adjustable divider under the rear seat.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
The new fourteenth-generation pickup truck from the start of sales is offered with the only full-range PowerBoost Full Hybrid powerhouse, which includes a V6 3.5 EcoBoost engine with two turbochargers, a 35 kilowatt (47 hp) electric motor integrated into 10 automatic transmissions. With this engine, a single-tank pickup truck that holds 115.8 liters of fuel can cover a distance of up to 700 miles (1,126 km) and is also capable of towing trailers weighing up to 5,443 kg.
Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which is actually available as an option, allows all movements to be performed precisely by turning the handle on the console. Traction, liquid-cooled lithium-ion batteries are located under the floor between the sides of the frame and do not affect the passenger compartment or load box.
The hybrid propulsion system is equipped with the 2.4 kW Pro Power Onboard system by default (available as an option for 7.2 kW). Pro Power can also power camping gear and gear and work both on the move and in parking lots. As the pickup moves from one place to another, it can charge appliance batteries, electric bicycles, power large refrigerators, and other appliances from a wall outlet.
Later, other engines will be added to the lineup: V6 3.3 Ti-VCT FFV petrol, V6 2.7 EcoBoost, V8 5.0 Ti-VCT, V6 3.5 EcoBoost and V6 3.0 Power Stroke diesel. The manufacturer hasn’t announced their power and torque yet. The capacity of the fuel tank, depending on the engine, can be from 87 to 136 liters. All power units work exclusively in conjunction with 10 automatic transmissions.
The drive can be rear or full, in the second version, the rear differential can be free or with electronic blocking. The pickup frame is made of high-strength steel, body panels are made of aluminum alloy, double wishbone front suspension with coil-over shock absorber-spring block, and at the rear are rigid axles with leaf springs.
Among other things, the company has also taken new steps in the area of network connectivity. The Ford F-150 is the first full-size pickup truck in the United States with an over-the-air software update. And we are talking not only about updating the multimedia system, but about the car as a whole. The update will take place during the fetch period. Most updates are downloaded within minutes, and at a time chosen by the owner.
Among the supported functions of the media center Sync 4 (in the entry-level configuration XL and XLT it is 8 inches, in the XLT version high and higher – 12 inches) – wireless connection using the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto interface, voice command recognition, access free to multimedia content and online-services.
The updated pickup receives an expanded set of Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 electronic assistants. This includes emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear view camera with dynamic lane lines and automatic light switching. Separately, there is a system for detecting incoming traffic on turning left (Intersection Assist) and advanced valet with longitudinal and parallel parking functions (Active Park Assist 2.0).
But the real breakthrough in terms of electronics is the inclusion of Active Drive Assist in the autopilot assist system suite. He can drive independently on all major highways in the US and Canada, without even needing a hand on the steering wheel.
All a driver needs is to monitor the traffic situation, as there is a camera in the cabin that monitors the person’s head position and gaze. The hardware required for the Active Drive Assist complex is already installed in the new pickup, but the software won’t appear until the third quarter of 2021. It can be installed wirelessly or in a dealer salon.
